A Lookback at American History Through the Lens of Black Baseball recounts the story of racism and racial discrimination in America told through the lens of Black baseball. The history of Black baseball is the history of Black America and, by proxy, the history of America. Black baseball was a cultural phenomenon, a quintessential example of the resilience and strength of African Americans in the face of the horror of systemic racism that was perpetrated by segregation.
Segregation era baseball was a bedrock of the Black community. It gave birth to a vibrant cultural, social and economic ecosystem that challenged racism and racial stereotypes in everyday life, education, entertainment, business, science and law. It was a source of Black pride and Black identity. The historical significance of Black baseball should not be ignored or forgotten.
