ABOUT THE EVENT:
Join staff from the New Jersey State Library Talking Book and Braille Center (TBBC) to discover how they provide accessible audio and braille books and magazines to New Jersey residents of all ages with visual impairments, reading disabilities, or physical limitations that make traditional reading difficult. This session will show you how TBBC's resources can complement the books you’re already borrowing from your local library. By the end of the program, you'll be familiar with TBBC's offerings, understand how to become a member, and learn how qualified individuals can receive audiobooks and braille materials either by mail or through a mobile app.
Speaker Bios:
Liz Kelly
Liz serves as the Adult Services Librarian at the Talking Book and Braille Center (TBBC) and holds a Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) degree from the University of Alabama. At TBBC, Liz has actively contributed to discussions on services for the print-disabled, presenting at various local and statewide conferences. Recently, alongside her TBBC colleagues, she co-authored the article “Providing Accessible Library Services at the New Jersey State Library Talking Book and Braille Center” for World Library, published by the National Library of Korea.
Jennnifer Apgar
Jennifer Apgar is the Youth Services Librarian at the NJ State Library Talking Book & Braille Center in Trenton. She holds an MLIS from San Jose State University in CA. Jen has worked at TBBC for over 15 years and has presented about TBBC’s services at national, state, and local conferences. Along with her TBBC colleagues, she recently co-authored an article for World Library, the National Library of Korea titled “Providing Accessible Library Services at the New Jersey State Library Talking Book and Braille Center.
