About the Play:

Fences is a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by August Wilson, set in 1957 Pittsburgh, focusing on Troy Maxson, a Black sanitation worker and former Negro League baseball player, and his family. The play explores themes of race, responsibility, betrayal, and the American Dream through Troy's struggles with his past, his strained relationships with his wife Rose and son Cory, and the societal limitations he faces. It's part of Wilson's "Pittsburgh Cycle," which chronicles the African-American experience over ten decades.
